WalkSignal

The pedestrians on the streets near Penn are subjected to walk-signals that emit loud and irritatingly repetitive bird calls that it is safe to cross. Audible half a block away, they are enough to drive this pedestrian crazy – heaven help the poor souls who live on the block. In Stockholm and Copenhagen they use a soft tick tock sound – slow for Don’t Walk and rapid for Walk – that can be heard only within about a 5 foot radius of the curb. What a concept – solves the problem simply without adding to auditory blight. Now for a volume control on the “talking” buses and trolleys.
